Sabzi mabzi week 7!
Salam Hamegi! Hi everyone!
It's been almost 7 weeks of selling you sabzi! Thanks for following along. :)
This week's bunches will likely include lots of green and purple basil, parsley, tarragon, and summer savory-- not unlike last week's! And the Daste Gol will include big dill florets, stunning strawflowers, marigolds, and more.
The farm is so full of Iranian basil right now, and I'm so excited to bring it to you in large quantities! Reyhan is so important to us and it feels so good to experience in abundance something that has otherwise been so difficult to find here for so many years. The first round of green basil that I planted has already started to set seeds. Each tiny basil flower has the ability to give way to four basil seeds, which are black when they are dried and finished, but right now they are still white and wet and new and fresh.
I have also started to process the cress and fenugreek seeds that have grown at the farm. After the plants flowered and grew seeds, I left them to dry down in the field. Then we harvested whole plants and wrapped them up in a tarp to bring home. They've been sitting in my tiny greenhouse and drying since then, and yesterday I threshed (removed the seed pods from the plant) the cress seeds under my feet. I'm looking forward to winnowing them (removing the chaff from the seeds) when I have more time.
Seed saving season means that sabzi season is going to come to an end soon. But, I don't think I have gotten word to the farm out to enough people! I would really appreciate it if you could help me spread the word about the farm! There's somewhere you can get fresh Iranian sabzi in the Bay Area! Only for a few more weeks!
It's been too hot to take Memo to the farm recently, but here's a picture of him waiting for me at home while I was at the farm! :)
Thanks for the support!
Be omide didar,
Farmer Sama :)
